Our students are "the best of the best." They are recipients of US scholarships, either from their US colleges and universities, or from the US government, such as Fulbright Scholars. Some scholars are here by special invitation to speak at academic and professional conferences. Others have been hired by US organizations for short-term employment. There is no better vetting than this!
The students are looking for host homes as they travel during vacations, attend or speak at conferences, or participate in summer internships. Their time in the USA is limited and their schedules are busy, so every opportunity to see a bit more of America is precious. Their budgets are also limited: most students who have earned these sorts of US scholarships are not from wealthy families. Therefore, the opportunity to stay with a friendly, helpful, trustworthy American host—for an affordable price—to gain an insider's understanding of their American experience—is priceless.
