ISI Albuquerque/Joan Lasche
Host-A-Scholar has no host families in Albuquerque right now, but we can suggest another person there who might be able to accommodate you: Joan Lasche! She has a large local network of ISI volunteers in Albuquerque, well-trained but not formally background-checked. They provide support for newly-arriving international students, including airport pickups, temporary homestays, help with finding an apartment, free furniture, and fun activities at the local new-student welcome center. Most students coming to Albuquerque learn about them through the University located here. Typically, students will contact her with their international travel itinerary and then she sends their details to volunteers to see who would be available to host them.
Joan is also willing to seek temporary homestay accommodations for those who contact her through Host-A-Scholar. Click here to contact her directly! Please mention that you heard about her through Host-A-Scholar, and please be understanding if she tells you that they cannot accommodate you. They are a volunteer organization and will never charge you anything for their services— but they also have no obligation to help you if their volunteers say “no” or “not now.” But hey, it's worth asking. Let us know about your experience with them!
